Losing Teeth Around the World

We began our new social studies unit today.  The girls will be learning about the continents in an interesting way--how children lose teeth around the world.  Today, the girls drew their interpretation of our Tooth Fairy; their drawings are hanging on our classroom door.

Short u sound and movement

During language arts, the girls learned the short u vowel sound and practiced reading and writing words that contained this sound.

In our math and science periods, the girls were given the challenge to build a structure where a ball could move without them touching it.  Be sure to ask your daughter if she was successful!

Signs of Spring????

Mother Nature must be playing tricks on us!  The kindergarten girls ventured outside and took a walk around Bryn Mawr's campus with their iPads to record the signs of springtime (which, we realize, is not going to last).  Be sure to ask your daughters what they noticed.

We also had third grade readers.

Valentine's Day and 100th Day

It has been an extremely active day in kindergarten!  The girls walked into the classroom this morning and immediately went on a daisy hunt.  They had to find 100 daisies hidden in our classroom and then work together to put them in numerical order.

Then the girls opened their valentines.

During math, the girls worked in different centers all based on the number 100.  They were: build a structure with 100 blocks, dot paint sets of 10 to 100, predicting what 100 drops of water looks like, and finding odd and even numbers on a 100 chart. Be sure to ask your daughter which was her favorite!

We ended our day with a Valentine's Day party.

Secret Valentine's Day Project!

The girls began work on a top secret Valentine's Day project!  We read The Day it Rained Hearts   and talked about the different ways we could find love in the world.  Stay tuned for this super cute gift!

What is Love?

During language arts, the girls listened to Charley's First Night.  We had a wonderful discussion about all of the different ways the characters in the story showed love.  Then the girls went back to their seats, drew what love meant to them in their storybooks, and wrote a sentence.

3D Shapes

We are finishing up our unit on three-dimensional shapes.  The girl's final task is to successfully make each shape out of play dough or model magic and correctly identify and label them.
