123 Andres Visits Bryn Mawr

Happy Friday!  We started today with a fabulous assembly by 123 Andres, last year's winner of the Latin Grammy for Best Children's Album.  His albums are bilingual with songs in both English and Spanish and today the girls had a blast singing, dancing, and playing instruments with this dynamic performer.  We have already learned several of his songs in Spanish class and the girls love singing along.  If your daughter wants to see more of his videos, you can find them here.

Math and Spirit Day

The girls in Mrs. Martin's class have been working on odd and even numbers.

Mrs. McMahon's class learned a new addition game where the girls raced their partner while adding the dots on dice.

We had a great time celebrating Spirit Day!

To end our week, the girls made edible Bryn Mawr daisies.  We loved the fact that each girl's daisy was different and unique!

Language Arts and butterflies

In language arts, Mrs. Martin's girls kept track of how many times they found our popcorn word "the" in their library books.  Be sure to ask your daughter how many times she found the word.
Mrs. McMahon's girls were introduced to three literature centers.  The girls are learning how to independently work at these centers during language arts time.  Here they are sorting, reading in our library, and completing a worksheet about our popcorn word, "the."
Both classes finished painting their butterflies today.  We will send home the entire life cycle on Thursday.

Joining numbers and popcorn words

In math, the girls are joining sets of numbers.  Here is Mrs. McMahon's class using our "apple" counters for basic addition problems.

The girls were also introduced to their first sight word.  We are calling these words               🍿  popcorn 🍿 words because the words keep popping up everywhere!  Mrs. Martin's class went on a word hunt to see how many times they could find the word "the."

Daisy Heads to Mexico

The big happening in kindergarten is that our Monarch butterfly, Daisy, took off for Mexico!

Butterfly!

In language arts, Mrs. Martin's class read Brave Charlotte and discussed one of our core values, "respect."  The girls also used our apple riddle (that they learned yesterday) and focused on their first popcorn word, "it."

Mrs. McMahon's class started out their day by discussing the importance of characters in a book.  Together, as a class, we created an anchor chart to help enhance our learning.  Afterwards, we read Happy Pig Day and discussed the characters in the book.

We continued learning about the founders and visited our Founders Bench.

Perhaps the most exciting news of the day is that our first butterfly emerged from its chrysalis!  The girls named her Daisy and we are going to feed her for the next few days and release her on Friday.

Founders Day and apples

Founders Day is coming up on Friday. In preparation, the girls have begun to learn more about Bryn Mawr and the five women who founded our school.  Today, your daughters were given a founder's name and re-enacted the time when the five women got together to brainstorm what a strong girls school should entail.  Below are the five founders.....

...and here are Mrs. McMahon's girls doing their best impressions of the ladies above.

Mrs. Martin's girls enjoyed their founders tea party.

During social studies, we discussed "respect" (one of Bryn Mawr's core values) and used apples to show that we may all be different on the outside, but same on our inside.
