Shadows

This week we began our unit on shadows. We have had fun observing our shadows, thinking about what makes a shadow, and experimenting with how the position of the sun changes our shadows. We are creating a shadow book and generally enjoying the spring sunshine. It is so wonderful to finally see the sun!

Last Friday we had an unexpected and wonderful opportunity to meet a direct descent of one of our founders, M. Carey Thomas. Ms. Arnold is one of Bryn Mawr's oldest living alumni and her mother actually began the Kindergarten program at Bryn Mawr! Her mother went to Italy to study under Maria Montessori and returned with many of the theories for teaching young children that we still use in the classroom today. We sang one of our favorite songs for Ms. Arnold and enjoyed listening to some stories about Bryn Mawr way back when. What a treat!
