Art: Shape Stamping

Th girls oohed and aahed at the results of their patterns from the dip-dying lesson.  Then, they chose one towel to print shapes on using black ink and a variety of "stamps".  You might recognize the marks of clothes pins, plastic forks, spools, lids, corks, and toothbrushes. The challenge was to repeat an all over pattern on top of the dyed pattern. The results are spectacular!

Art: Patterns & Printmaking

The materials for this project are right in your own home: food coloring and papertowels.  The girls folded a paper towel 3x the "hotdog way" making a narrow rectangle.  Then, they "flip-flop folded" it into a small rectangular nugget.  Next, they dipped the paper towel into red, yellow, or blue food coloring (diluted with water) just until the color ran towards their fingers.  The paper towels stay folded for a bit between newspaper.  Their patterns will be revealed next class when they will add another layer of pattern with printmaking techniques.
