Our Houses Have A New Home!

The girls were thrilled to know their glorious gingerbread houses were delivered to children less fortunate.  Listening to each child's description about how wonderful their family is warmed our hearts!

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR SPECIAL GIRLS WITH US.
TEACHING THEM IS A JOY AND PRIVILEGE !

Art: Play with Clay Day

The girls were very excited to discover the physical properties and possibilities with clay. It's cold, it's wet, it's gray, it is smooth, it makes my hands dusty... were some of their comments. Then, when we talked about what you can do with it, they said: break, pinch,  poke,  twist, slam, and roll. We named the list: "Things you can do with clay that you can not do on the playground."  After a few minutes of exploration, the girls were given a challenge to address texture and form.  Could they make a smooth place, a bumpy place, a piece that stands up and a place that holds water.  Here are some of the ways they discovered...

Run, Run, Run, As Fast As You Can!

"I am the Gingerbread Baby,
Fresh from the pan!
If you want me,
Catch me if you can!"

After reading Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett we created our own gingerbread babies. We put them in the imaginary oven and waited... Unfortunately, were so excited to see the results that we peeked too soon and can you guess what happened?

The gingerbread babies escaped and ran all over the Bryn Mawr campus!

We had so much fun running after our gingerbread babies! We found them in many different classrooms and with an assortment of teachers and students. Those naughty gingerbread babies! Thankfully, we were able to make a gingerbread house today so those babies will stay put from now on! After our hunt we created a class book about our gingerbread adventures. Taking a cue from Jan Brett, we made sure to add large amounts of detail to our drawings. Enjoy some pictures from our hunt around campus!

Mrs. Nothstein was very helpful with our search!

We can't wait to see everyone tomorrow for our Winter Concert!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Enjoy precious, thankful moments for all to remember.

On Monday we began our author study of Jan Brett.
Jan Brett's Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends were the perfect books to prepare the girls
for decorating the gingerbread houses and girls.
With the help of many, the room bustled with excitement and joy as the candy found its way to every corner of the houses!
Thank you to everyone for sending in candy or helping.
Wednesday morning everyone designed her own paper gingerbread girl that will "run away" to a spot of her choosing on the campus.

This week also brought the Bryn Mawr Cross Grade Experience.
The ninth grade class teamed with our kindergarten girls for a memorable activity.
Learning about birds and how to construct a bird house brought the classes together!
Hopefully the houses will find a tree near your home.
