Measuring Daffodils

What fun to see the girls back in their spring uniforms! We are quickly learning that "spring comes in like a lion and out like a lamb", so the green leggings and sweatshirts are still a very important necessity!

Before Spring Break each student chose a daffodil outside of our classroom to observe over the next few weeks. We have enjoyed watching the stems grow and we are beginning to see small buds at the top. We can't wait to see what color the daffodils are when they bloom! The daffodils have led us into a unit on measurement. The girls are learning how to compare lengths of different objects and to use a ruler to measure their daffodils.

Observing and photographing our daffodils

How tall is your daffodil?

Find something that is longer than your popsicle stick.

Comparing crayon lengths.
This week was also all about the letter 'e'. We have pretended to be elephants eating eggs, read the book, Eloise, and learned about Elmer the elephant who learned it is better to be different! We have now learned about all of the vowels and are growing into wonderful readers!

Finally, a few pictures from before our break. We pretended to be tight rope walkers as we walked and read the word family wire. Our bug hats (from the -ug family) made it quite a challenge to walk across the wire without falling!

Silly girls in silly hats!

Art: Monet Lily Pads

The girls painted various blues and greens in an impressionist style like Monet painted the water in his famous pond paintings. The girls are cutting lily pads out of tissue paper to glue on next class. Then, they will make the lilies too!

Art: What can you do with line?

Th girls are exploring the art element LINE. They cut out lines from some multi media paintings they were working on, named them, and then introduced them to the class.  Then they were challenged to have a playdate with the line.  They created a list of action activities they enjoy, that surely the line could enjoy too.

Another Snowy Week!

We can't believe we have had yet another snow day and late start! This week got off to a slow start as a result of all the snow, but we are quickly getting back into the swing of things.

We are looking forward to the dance assembly on Friday morning. Your girls will perform their dances at 8:15am in the KVB gym. They have been working tirelessly with Mr. Gillotte and can't wait to show you their dances!

The FROZEN frenzy has reached our classroom with full force! The songs are sung continuously and we can't help but compare ourselves to Elsa and Anna. They could easily be Bryn Mawr Girls! If you can't beat 'em, you may as well join 'em! On Tuesday we watched part of the movie and discussed the characters from the story. After creating life-size drawings of Elsa and Anna the girls named many wonderful adjectives to describe each character. We also looked at the lyrics to several of the songs and practiced finding our popcorn words. We were thrilled to find we knew many of the words. What a fun day of learning! If ALL of the girls bring their hats and gloves to school we get to watch more of the movie, so please send your daughter with the things she needs to keep warm!

Hard at work!

Who is compassionate?
Who is resilient?
Who cooperates?

So many wonderful adjectives!
