Our Farm Trip and Mindfulness in the Classroom

What fun we had at Rodger's Farm on Monday! We loved having so many parents join us for a fun morning together. The girls loved seeing the baby pigs, walking the corn maze, and playing on the hay bales. Enjoy some pictures below!

This week we have been learning about mindfulness in the classroom. The girls are learning how to be mindful of their peers as well as mindful of their own bodies - what they feel, hear, and smell around them. We have even done some mindful eating to truly taste and enjoy our food!

Each morning this week we began our calendar time with a mindfulness activity. The girls lie down in their own space, we turn off the lights, and they listen to the ringing of a bell or a quiet song. The purpose of this activity is to get them ready for the day and aware of their surroundings.

After the activity we ask the girls how they felt during this time. A few of the words they came up with include:

proud
compassionate
smart
comfortable
peaceful
resilient
mindful
happy
relaxed
alone

We can't wait for our Halloween parade and party tomorrow!

From the Library

Kindergarteners are learning their way around the library. We have been reading a few stand alone books including Tim Wadham's Queen of France, Barbara Bottner's Miss Brooks Loves Books and I Don't, and have just started James Marshall's George and Martha series. Ask your daughter how George "solves" the problem of the pea soup. Kindergarteners are proving to be creative and collaborative two word storytellers. Ask about this too. Maybe your daughter can direct a two word story at home.

WHAT WOULD YOU MAKE ?

After reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert
we explored the campus collecting leaves and nuts to
create our own leaf character.

As we collected our teachers identified the name of the trees our
leaves fell from.
We found Maple, Oak and Dogwood leaves.
It was fun to find which trees had nuts.

We are finding Bryn Mawr is a wonderful place to explore!

Enjoy our creations.....we used our imagination!
Each character was different.
Later we took a picture with our iPads.
Tomorrow and next week we will
record a story using the app Scribble Press.

Learning about parallel lines with our pumpkin lanterns.

Pumpkins falling off the fence when the witch flies by
teaches subtraction.

Sharing with a friend is always a special moment.

Founders Day

We have spent the week learning about everything Bryn Mawr. We learned the history of our special school and practiced many of the songs and traditions that make Bryn Mawr a wonderful place to learn! Thank goodness the rain is past us and we can explore our beautiful campus!

The Founders Bench. We found all five names!
