Pumpkin Experiment

We carved our class pumpkin today.  During morning meeting, the girls voted on "Jack's" eyes, nose, and mouth shape.  During our science period, the girls met Jack and conducted an experiment on him. The girls had to predict what would happen to Jack after we put baking soda, vinegar, and blue food dye inside his head.  Some predictions were explode, turn blue, and melt.

Here is our experiment:

The girls then recorded their observations on their sheets.  Be sure to check out their recordings in their Thursday folders.

Pumpkin Math and Parent Reader

For the past two days, both classes have been measuring and exploring pumpkins.  The girls have estimated the number of seeds inside our class pumpkin and taken a guess if our pumpkin will float or sink.

Mrs. McMahon's class has been reading Henny Penny.  Yesterday, the girls partnered up and had to sequence the story using the main characters.
We had a parent reader this afternoon.

Butterflies in Computer Science

As Kindergarteners continue to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, they are documenting the events using the app My Story.  We are also using a 3Doodler to create butterflies!

123 Andres Visits Bryn Mawr

Happy Friday!  We started today with a fabulous assembly by 123 Andres, last year's winner of the Latin Grammy for Best Children's Album.  His albums are bilingual with songs in both English and Spanish and today the girls had a blast singing, dancing, and playing instruments with this dynamic performer.  We have already learned several of his songs in Spanish class and the girls love singing along.  If your daughter wants to see more of his videos, you can find them here

Math and Spirit Day

The girls in Mrs. Martin's class have been working on odd and even numbers.

Mrs. McMahon's class learned a new addition game where the girls raced their partner while adding the dots on dice.

We had a great time celebrating Spirit Day!

To end our week, the girls made edible Bryn Mawr daisies.  We loved the fact that each girl's daisy was different and unique!

Language Arts and butterflies

In language arts, Mrs. Martin's girls kept track of how many times they found our popcorn word "the" in their library books.  Be sure to ask your daughter how many times she found the word.
Mrs. McMahon's girls were introduced to three literature centers.  The girls are learning how to independently work at these centers during language arts time.  Here they are sorting, reading in our library, and completing a worksheet about our popcorn word, "the."
Both classes finished painting their butterflies today.  We will send home the entire life cycle on Thursday.
