Art_Paper Quilts

Kindergarteners are making paper quilts! They have looked at the quilts of Gee's Bend for inspiration. They are using art materials to create different surface qualities like different fabrics have different textures.

First, they painted one shape many times following 4 rules: touching, floating, inside each other, and overlapping. Next, they filled in one shape with graphite to make leather, marker to make satin, crayon to make velvet, and wax resist to make corduroy.  They, of course, loved touching the samples or fabric.

The next class they added patterns to their quilts. We looked at floral patterns and geometric patterns. They chose one of each to copy onto their quilts. They are learning as they fill the paper, that quilts take a long time to make!!!
